Geneva

Geneva is an international city situated in SouthWest Switzerland. It is situated on the southwestern end of Lac Léman(Switzerland's largest city). It is located on River Geneva and is bisected by River Rhone. River Rhone separates Geneva into two halves. Old Town is situated towards the south of the river and the suburbs and train station are situated toward the north.

Geneva remained as the headquarters for the League of Nations until 1946. Now it is the headquarters of the United Nations.

Geneva canton(canton is a administrative division of a country especially Switzerland) is the plain situated between Jura and Alps. The population is primarily French speaking as France borders Switzerland. Geneva is a picturesque city joined by numerous bridges.

Geneva is home to around 190 international organisations, both governmental and nongovernmental. Some of the important organisations are International Labour Organisation, International Red Cross, World Health Organisation, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, World Intellectual Property Organisation and World council of Churches are also based in Geneva.

Geneva is also known for its parks with over 330 hectares of parks, with 40,000 rose bushes and 40,000 trees in public parks.

Geneva is the major centre of banking and it is known for its jewellery and watches. The city has excellent public transportation system. One of the best ways to see the city is by taking a trip on a motorboat across the lake.

Godfather of the city is the Reformer Jean Calvin, who converted the Geneva city into "Protestant Rome" in the 16th century. Geneva is characterised by high Swiss Salary and low French living expenses. Most of the people living in Geneva, go to France for shopping.
